The day that the social media platform revealed its income rose by 53 percent last year compared to 2019, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg blasted competitor Apple for their ‘self-serving and anti-competitive’ privacy reforms. Facebook CEO Zuckerberg, however, is raising concerns about upcoming Apple developments that could undermine the future dominance of his company. Reported on Wednesday, the results of Facebook for the Q3 of 2020 came as Apple announced that it had a stellar year, with revenue in the three months to the end of December of more than $100 billion. In 2020, during the pandemic, Facebook benefited from more individuals being at home and saw a rise in their platform use. Apple is planning for a shift in software which will ask iPhone and iPad users specifically whether they want to share their data for ad-tracking purposes. Zuckerberg said, “I’m excited about our 2021 brand strategic plan as we develop innovative and effective ways to create economic opportunities, create community and help people have fun.” In 2020, Facebook saw 14pc use of its applications such as Instagram and WhatsApp Apple took advantage of individuals updating their iPads, phones and Macs. Apple will soon make big software improvements that Mark Zuckerberg sees as a competitive challenge to the success of Facebook’s messaging apps.
