The committee met with its convenor Kalsom Parveen in the chair and took the complaint lodged by Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication; regarding fake news on social media about the recovery of huge quantity of gold from her house.
Senate Sub-Committee Stresses to Take Strict Action Against Spreading Of Fake News On Social Media
The committee stressed the need for rebuttal of all those involved in the maligning of the Chairperson and said that unless examples are made of individuals, no one is safe. The Committee was informed that social media accounts of persons involved have been verified and all necessary measures are being taken to take those involved in the task. The Committee stressed the need for penalizing the culprits. The committee also took stringent notice of the discrepancies observed between seat allocation and filled seats in different provinces. Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi observed that Balochistan was allocated a total number of 319 seats whereas the figure quoted revealed a mere 200. Similarly, total allocation in Sindh was supposed to be 904 whereas the number of seats shown was a meager 166. The Committee asserted that this issue needs to be rectified at the earliest and that the Establishment Division be summoned in the next meeting with details of 17-22 grade officers and their deployments. It was also recommended that USF be summoned in the next meeting for mobile network service in Balochistan. Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi stressed the need to review details of this service in Zardad District Kech, Balochistan. Convened by Senator Kalsoom Parveen, the meeting was attended by Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and senior officers from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, FIA Cybercrime Centre along with all concerned.
